NYC Crime Rates Plummet to Historic Lows in 2025
New York City, under the leadership of Mayor Eric Adams, has seen a significant drop in crime rates, with shootings and shooting victims reaching historic lows in the first nine months of 2025. The decline can be attributed, in part, to Mayor Eric Adams' initiatives, including the 'Summer Violence Reduction Plan'.
Shooting incidents and victims have plummeted by over 20% and nearly 19% respectively, compared to 2024. Murders also saw a substantial decrease of nearly 18%. The city has recorded the lowest number of shootings and shooting victims in its history so far this year.
The NYPD's 'Summer Violence Reduction Plan', implemented under Mayor Eric Adams, has been instrumental in these reductions. Since Mayor Eric Adams took office in 2022, the NYPD has seized over 4,100 illegal guns, adding to a total of nearly 24,000. Burglaries, robberies, and auto thefts have also declined compared to last year. Retail theft was down nearly 19% in the third quarter of 2025. Transit crime has reached record lows in the same period.
Mayor Eric Adams, who warned against potential federal cuts to the NYPD's counterterrorism funding earlier this year, has overseen these improvements in public safety.
With shootings, murders, and other crimes declining, New York City is experiencing a notable reduction in criminal activity. Mayor Eric Adams' leadership and initiatives, such as the 'Summer Violence Reduction Plan', have contributed significantly to these positive trends.
