North Rhine-Westphalia Hospitality: Mixed Fortunes in April 2019
The North Rhine-Westphalian hotel and restaurant industry saw mixed fortunes in April 2019, with revenue dropping but employment rising compared to the same month in 2018.
Revenue in catering businesses fell by 2.0% in real terms, while accommodation services experienced a steeper decline of 11.6%. However, the number of employees in the industry increased by 1.7%. Looking at the broader picture, for the first four months of 2019, revenue rose by 0.5% in real terms compared to the same period in 2018. Nationwide, the hotel and restaurant industry's revenue was 1.7% lower in April 2019 compared to April 2018.
Despite the dip in revenue for catering and accommodation services in North Rhine-Westphalia, the industry saw an increase in employment. The overall revenue for the first four months of 2019 also showed a slight improvement. Nationally, the hotel and restaurant industry experienced a 1.7% decrease in revenue in April 2019.
