Disruptions to Train Services between Tübingen, Reutlingen, Metzingen, Bad Urach, and Mössingen-Hechingen

Due to ongoing renovation work as part of the Stuttgart 21 infrastructure project, several train routes in the Tübingen, Reutlingen, Metzingen, Bad Urach, and Mössingen-Hechingen areas are experiencing disruptions. Here's what passengers need to know:

  • The Stuttgart 21 project aims to open a new through station in Stuttgart by December 2026, which will serve as a major hub for long-distance and regional services, including routes to and from Tübingen and Reutlingen.
  • New infrastructure sections, such as the Große and Kleine Wendlinger Kurve, will specifically improve connections between the Stuttgart area and Tübingen and Reutlingen.
  • The Gäubahn line, which serves cities including Tübingen, will continue operating through the existing terminal station until at least March 2027, partly to minimize service disruptions during ongoing construction and commissioning phases.
  • Travelers on the route from Tübingen to Hechingen and Balingen may have to take buses and change due to bridge work between Mössingen and Hechingen. However, train service between Tübingen and Hechingen will resume again from Wednesday, August 6th.
  • The route Reutlingen - Bad Urach will not be running as usual until the end of November.
  • As of August 4th, there will be no train service at all between Tübingen and Reutlingen. From Friday, the route Tübingen - Reutlingen will be passable on a single track.
  • Passengers should expect possible temporary changes but eventual enhanced connectivity upon project completion. The full completion and integration of regional tracks—including those around Bad Cannstatt—are expected by November 2027.
  • No direct mention was found in the current search results about renovation impacts specifically on Metzingen, Bad Urach, or Mössingen-Hechingen routes. However, it is reasonable that as part of the regional network improvements around Tübingen and the Gäubahn corridor, some renovation or temporary service adjustments may occur.
  • German Railways is using the summer holidays to carry out these renovations. In addition to the S-Bahn between Stuttgart main station and Vaihingen not running from Saturday, July 26th, to the first week of September due to renovation, buses will be used instead on the route Tübingen-Reutlingen-Metzingen-Bad Urach.
  • Buses will run between Tübingen and Reutlingen, and also directly from Tübingen main station to Stuttgart main station and back. Passengers are advised to check the German Railways website (bahn.de) or DB Navigator app for updates on train schedules.

  • The ongoing renovation work within the Stuttgart 21 infrastructure project, affecting train services in Tübingen, Reutlingen, Metzingen, Bad Urach, and Mössingen-Hechingen, could potentially impact various sectors such as industry and finance by disrupting supply chains and local business operations that rely on transportation.
  • Even with the temporary disruptions in transportation due to the renovation work, the long-term goal of the Stuttgart 21 project includes enhancing finance-related aspects such as increasing efficiency, reducing travel time, and facilitating commerce by improving connectivity between cities like Tübingen, Reutlingen, and Stuttgart.
