Top Tales 📰

After being a staple in Brundall on The Broads for a whopping 125 years, Broom Boats has been passing the baton to a new Norfolk boat hire and marine services firm! 🌟

New Day, New Owners for Broom Boats! ⚓️

So, who's the lucky buyer? Clive and Victoria Richardson from Horning Pleasurecraft, that's who! This team runs Horning Marina on the River Bure and Cove Marina, and now they've upped their game with the acquisition of Broom Boats. 🤝

The whole shebang – the 78-berth marina, a fleet of 32 boats, the White Heron pub, and the freehold of an 8.6-acre freehold site – is now theirs, and they couldn't be happier! 🏘️

The team at Broom Boats has also been caught in the wave of change, with every single staff member moving over to the new owners. ✨🌟

So, What's Next for Broom Boats? 🤔

With a long history in the Broads boating community, Clive Richardson (yep, the same guy who designed the CJR F46 and the first of the Fleetline Broads Cruisers) isn't ruling out the possibility of building new Broom Boats in Brundall. 🛥️

In an interview, he shared that the Horning Pleasurecraft business has been growing steadily over the past four years, initially with a small hire fleet and a team of engineers and boatbuilders. Next came Cove Marina in 2021, and, when the opportunity to buy Broom Boats came up, it seemed like a natural fit. 🌱

Plans for Broom Boats include improving and filling the moorings, expanding the private work and service division, and maintaining the quality hire fleet. 📈🛥️

Broom Boats is best known for starting back in 1898, when Charles John Broom decided to build "beautifully crafted sailing cruisers for gentlemen". Since the 1960s, they've produced more than 40 different boat models, ranging from the Broom 29 to the Broom 39KL. 🛩️

However, after several unprofitable years, production of new boats stopped in 2018. Since then, they've focused on the hire fleet, marina, and the repair and maintenance part of the business. ⛵️
