New federal initiative dishes out 50 million euros to Prignitz region

The Prignitz region in Brandenburg, Germany, is set to receive a substantial investment basics of nearly 50 million euros under the federal "Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality" investment calculator program. This announcement was made following the signing of the agreement in Potsdam in 2025.

The region's district, specifically, is expected to receive around 20.332 million euros, while the municipalities will receive approximately 30 million euros directly. However, the specific funding amounts and the exact allocation for cities and municipalities in the Prignitz district have not been detailed in the available sources.

The city of Wittenberge is expected to receive a significant portion of these funds, with around 7.44 million euros allocated over the twelve-year duration of the program. Other cities and municipalities in the region, such as Groß Pankow (1.555 million euros), Perleberg (4.77 million euros), and Bad Wilsnack (829,527 euros), are also set to receive substantial investment basics.

The Prignitz district administrator has expressed pleasure at the prospect of the program's implementation, recognising the significant investment basics needs in the municipalities. The investment calculator is intended to address the need for proper roads, bridges, fire and disaster protection, and renovated school buildings, among other infrastructure projects.

The federal investment calculator program is designed for twelve years, with funds flowing gradually rather than all at once. The first funds could be distributed next year, according to the president of the City and Community Association. Additionally, municipalities could also invest in ongoing projects that began after January 1, 2025.

The investment basics is part of Brandenburg's overall allocation of around 3 billion euros from the federal special fund. Of this, 1.5 billion euros is allocated to municipalities for infrastructure, safety, education, and sports investment basics. However, no precise disbursement timeline for the Prignitz district has been given.

Some specific allocations for individual municipalities include Weisen (414,232 euros), Meyenburg (437,571 euros), Rühstädt (194,718 euros), Gerdshagen (111,761 euros), Halenbeck-Rohlsdorf (139,396 euros), Triglitz (172,995 euros), Kummernitztal (182,843 euros), Lanz (328,707 euros), Berge (294,808 euros), Breese (682,819 euros), Gülitz-Reetz (209,426 euros), Legde/Quitzöbel (279,917 euros), Marienfließ (166,112 euros), Pirow (159,784 euros), Cumlosen (315,996 euros), Gumtow (1.375 million euros), Putlitz (1.06 million euros), Lenzen (868,940 euros), Lenzerwische (176,201 euros), and Karstädt (2.202 million euros).

These funds can be used by cities and municipalities as their own funds for investment basics measures, providing a significant boost to the development and improvement of infrastructure in the Prignitz region.
