NECA Praises Tinubu's Recognition of Workers' Contributions, Calls for Pension Reforms
The Nigeria Employers' Consultative Association (NECA) has praised President Bola Tinubu's recognition of the value of workers who have dedicated their productive years to building the Nigerian economy. NECA's Director-General, Mr Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, gave this commendation on Sunday in Abuja.
NECA has pledged to work with the Nigerian government and stakeholders to strengthen social security administration. This includes advocating for policies that ensure pension asset safety, expand pension coverage, and improve the welfare of all retirees. NECA describes President Tinubu's consistent attention to pension-related matters as a strong signal of his administration's dedication to social protection and economic dignity in retirement.
NECA also highlighted the importance of a strong pension industry for economic stability, social cohesion, and intergenerational fairness. However, the absence of a fully functional Governing Body at PenCom currently affects effective oversight, policy direction, and corporate governance within the commission. NECA considers the timely reconstitution of the Governing Body of the National Pension Commission (PenCom) as a critical step to sustain the momentum of pension system sustainability.
NECA, committed to the growth and development of the pension sector in Nigeria, will remain a vocal advocate for a sustainable social security system that works for all. It has commended President Tinubu for his consistent interest in the welfare of retirees and pensioners across Nigeria, pledging to work together to strengthen social security administration and ensure the well-being of all retirees.
