Two days of labor protests are scheduled by public workers and airport ground crew at Munich's aviation hub.

Munich Airport significantly reduces its operational activities.

Preparing for a significant disruption, Verdi union has announced a 48-hour warning strike at Munich Airport for Thursday and Friday at midnight. This activity is aimed at influencing the ongoing collective bargaining negotiations in the public sector. The union is seeking an 8% wage increase, an additional €350 per month, and better allowances for demanding roles, including healthcare and other high-stress jobs. They also want to negotiate three extra free days[1][2][3].

The strike is expected to involve a small number of employees, leading to the cancellation of the majority of the more than 1600 scheduled flights[1][2][3]. Munich Airport, as Germany's second-largest hub, handles a large volume of air traffic. Consequently, these disruptions could result in significant flight cancellations and delays, causing travel inconvenience[1][2][3].

Verdi justifies the strike due to the lack of progress in the wage negotiations for federal and municipal public servants. A second round of negotiations last week failed to result in an agreement. The municipalities warn of an overload, considering the high debts of many cities and communities[1][2][3].

Hoping to help passengers, Munich Airport and the airlines are working to minimize the impact of the strike. Travelers are advised to monitor their flight status and consider alternative travel options to avoid any disruptions[2][4].

The strike announced by Verdi Union at the Airport of Munich could affect up to 1600 scheduled flights, leading to cancellations and delays for passengers. The union's demands include an 8% wage increase, additional €350 per month, and improved allowances for demanding roles. The 48-hour strike is expected to involve a small number of employees, but its impact on the busy Munich Airport could be significant.
