Morgan Price from Fisk University becomes the first gymnast from a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to achieve a perfect score of ten.

Morgan Price, a dynamic gymnast from Fisk University, etched her name into the annals of college gymnastics history this past weekend. In a thrilling tri-meet at Temple University, Price scored a perfect 10.0 on her bar routine, making her the first gymnast representing a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to accomplish this feat in women's collegiate gymnastics.

The momentous performance arrived during the third rotation for the Fisk Women’s Gymnastics team. Price showcased her trademark precision and confidence, culminating in a mesmerizing full-twisting double-back dismount that had her teammates erupting in joy. When the score flashed "10.0," the scene was punctuated by the jubilant celebration of the Bulldog gymnastics team around their inspiring teammate.

Price's stellar performance not only surpassed her previous career best of 9.90 on the event but also paved the way for a dominant showing in her career-defining event. In addition to breaking the 10.0 barrier, Price claimed victories in every event except for beam, resulting in an extraordinary career-high all-around total of 39.500. Her margin of victory was a staggering 0.9 points, a rare and impressive achievement in women's gymnastics.

This pulsating meeting marked another triumphant chapter in Price's record-breaking career. Since Fisk University championed the inception of the first HBCU gymnastics program in 2022, Price has been a trailblazing force in HBCU gymnastics. In her freshman year, she made history by becoming the first HBCU gymnast to register a 9.90, marking the historic score on the bars in the fourth week of her debut season. Price then clinched her first all-around title at Georgia, ultimately securing a spot on the USAG First-Team All-American squad.

The sophomore year proved to be even more prosperous. Price shattered her own record, posting the highest score in HBCU history with a resounding 9.95 on the balance beam during the fourth week of competition. Throughout her sophomore year, she continued to establish new standards, culminating in a monumental achievement at the USAG National Championships later that spring.

On April 11, 2024, Price cemented her place in history, becoming the first college gymnastics National Champion from an HBCU program. Her victory was widely publicized, and Price shared her feelings with ABC News' Good Morning America later that month, expressing her honor in being part of Fisk University's groundbreaking gymnastics team and representing the first HBCU to claim an all-around national title.

As she approaches her senior year, Price's passion for the sport remains undiminished. Reflecting on her decision to attend Fisk, she explained, “Growing up in gymnastics, I rarely had teammates who looked like me. I wanted to be a part of history and inspire younger girls who aspire to attend an HBCU. I will eternally cherish being a part of this team."
