Michael Dorf, a Milwaukee native with a background in both business and psychology, has made a significant impact on the entertainment and dining industry. In 2008, he launched City Winery, a nationwide dining and entertainment mecca that has become a beacon of innovation and resilience.

City Winery's inception was marked by a unique concept: private barrels of wine for wealthy New Yorkers. However, the financial crisis of 2008 forced a change in direction. The wine-on-tap program, now a centerpiece of their business, was born out of necessity and has proven to be a successful and environmentally friendly solution.

His career in the music industry began without the ability to play music himself, as he worked in various roles such as the sound guy, lighting guy, promoter, manager, and record-company guy.

City Winery has been at the forefront of COVID-19 safety measures. In late July 2021, it became the first live entertainment and restaurant space in the country to require either proof of vaccination or a negative test result before entering. This bold move was followed by another in November 2020, when City Winery, based in New York City, became the first restaurant to require proof of negative rapid-test results before entry.
