MFS Investment Management Marks 96 Years, Now Manages $548 Billion
MFS Investment Management, originally established as the Massachusetts Investors Trust (MIT) in 1924, has evolved into a global asset management firm. Headquartered in Boston since 1996, it maintains its historical records on display. Today, MFS manages over $548 billion USD, serving both private and institutional clients, and is among the top 50 asset managers worldwide.
MFS's journey began with its founders, Sherman Adams, Charles Learoyd, and Ashton Carr, creating the first US investment fund accessible to a wide range of private investors. Over nearly a century, the MIT, now MFS Investment Management, has weathered historical events and intense competition, attracting and retaining clients. By focusing on selected US standard stocks, it has achieved an average annual return of around 9%.
In 1969, the MIT was reorganized and began operating as Massachusetts Financial Services (MFS). Since 2011, MFS has more than doubled its managed assets, reaching $548 billion USD by the end of September 2020, demonstrating resilience even during the 'Corona crash'. Today, its largest clients are institutional investors, served by dedicated teams in various regions. MFS employs over 1,900 people and is part of Canadian Sun Life Financial since 1982.
From its inception as the first US investment fund for private investors, MFS Investment Management has grown into a global asset management firm with over $548 billion USD in assets. With a proven track record of nearly 100 years, MFS continues to serve both private and institutional clients, demonstrating resilience and growth despite market challenges.
