Mexico's largest railroad project, valued at approximately $1.5 billion, has been awarded to the Federal Communications Commission in partnership with Carlos Slim's business empire.

In a significant development for the Mexican infrastructure sector, the alliance between FCC and Grupo Carso, formed in 2015, has been awarded the construction and design of 111 kilometers of the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo Passenger Train. This project marks the largest railway project licensed so far in Mexico.

The consortium formed by FCC Construcción and Grupo Carso's subsidiary Cicsa will participate in the project at 50% each. The alliance was established with the aim of jointly developing infrastructure projects in America. Carlos Slim's entry into FCC's capital led to the formation of this alliance with Grupo Carso.

The Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo railway, upon completion, will span a total of 396,34 kilometers. The project, set to begin on September 30, is estimated to take 960 days, or approximately two and a half years, to complete. The estimated investment for the project surpasses 6,000 million euros.

The award for the construction and design of the 111 kilometers was made by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation through the Regulatory Agency for Railway Transport. Segments 13 and 14 of the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo railway are included in the project.

The train is expected to reach speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour, making it a significant leap forward in Mexico's transportation infrastructure. The aim of the alliance between FCC and Grupo Carso was to develop such projects in America jointly and at 50% each.

However, there is currently no information available about who led the Regulatory Agency for Railway Transport in Mexico when the construction and design project of the 111 kilometers of the Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo Passenger Train was awarded to FCC and the Grupo Carso subsidiary.

This project is a testament to the continued growth and development of Mexico's infrastructure, and a significant step forward in the partnership between FCC and Grupo Carso. As the project progresses, more information will undoubtedly become available, shedding light on the details of this ambitious undertaking.
