The city of Santiago, Chile, is set to witness a significant upgrade in its public transportation system with the introduction of the new Alstom Metropolis trains for Line 7 of the Metro. These trains, manufactured at Alstom's industrial unit in Taubaté, São Paulo, Brazil, are part of a contract between Alstom and Metro de Santiago that also includes the provision of the Urbalis CBTC signaling system, 20 years of maintenance, an innovative predictive maintenance system, and the supply of 37 Metropolis trains.

Key features of the Metropolis trains include four wide doors on each side for easy passenger entry and exit, spacious aisles, and open gangways between cars. The trains will also boast air conditioning, an advanced passenger information system, USB charging ports, and a comprehensive cybersecurity system with high-resolution cameras and intercoms linked to the metro control center.

Each train is 102 meters long and can accommodate up to 1,250 passengers. Made of stainless steel, the trains are designed for durability and have a lifespan of over 40 years while reducing electricity consumption. A total of 37 trains, each consisting of five cars, are being produced at Alstom's plant in Taubaté, São Paulo, Brazil.

The Santiago Metro Line 7 itself will be 26 kilometers long with 19 stations, traversing seven districts, of which three will be newly served by the metro system. This expansion represents a significant addition to the Santiago Metro network, currently operating 7 lines and 143 stations.

Denis Girault, General Director of Alstom in Chile, stated that the production of these trains will improve the quality of mobility and transportation in Chile. Alstom has been present in Chile for over 75 years and has supplied Metro de Santiago with several fleets, including NS74, NS93, AS02, NS04, and NS16.

The Metropolis trains for Santiago's Metro are not just a step forward in terms of technology, but also in terms of passenger experience. Alstom's broader strategy is to enhance passenger experience by integrating comfort, security, inclusivity, and seamless onboard services within their mobility solutions. With the arrival of these new trains, Santiago's commuters can look forward to a more efficient, environmentally friendly, and comfortable journey.

The production of the Metropolis trains by Alstom, as part of a contract with Metro de Santiago, not only includes the supply of trains but also the Urbalis CBTC signaling system, 20 years of maintenance, an innovative predictive maintenance system, and finance solutions for the project.

These Metropolis trains, set to be integrated into Santiago's public transportation system, will significantly improve the quality of mobility and transportation within the city's finance sector, and beyond, with features such as air conditioning, USB charging ports, and a comprehensive cybersecurity system.
