Mercedes-AMG has unveiled a performance-oriented GT model aiming to surpass the Nürburgring record set by Porsche.

The Mercedes-AMG Concept GT Track Sport is making waves in the automotive world with its ambitious goal of setting a new production car lap record at the Nürburgring. This high-performance track-focused car, which is expected to be part of the AMG GT series, boasts a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that's anticipated to produce over 700 horsepower.

The Concept GT Track Sport's design is sleek and aerodynamically optimized, featuring a swan-neck rear wing and an aggressive front splitter. These elements are designed to maximize downforce, enhancing the car's performance on the track. Underneath, it's equipped with adaptive suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes, a 9-speed automatic transmission, and a limited-slip differential.

Tires for this road-legal vehicle will be Michelin street-legal, with the Cup 2 R suspected. These tires are optimized for track use, ensuring the Concept GT Track Sport can handle the rigours of the Nürburgring.

The Concept GT Track Sport is a 2-seat vehicle, returning to a strict sports car design that emphasizes driver focus. This move is intended to address criticisms about the second-generation AMG GT going soft and adopting a 2+2 layout.

Mercedes-AMG has not confirmed a specific launch date, but the prototype testing and comments suggest the production version could arrive soon. If produced, deliveries are expected to begin in 2026, although production plans and pricing have not been announced yet.

The current Nürburgring production car record is 6:43.3, set by the 911 GT2 RS with a Manthey kit. The Concept GT Track Sport aims to beat this record, as well as the previous AMG record of 6:48.047, set by the GT Black Series.

While details are still scarce, it's clear that the Mercedes-AMG Concept GT Track Sport is shaping up to be a formidable competitor on the track. As AMG continues to push into ultra-high-performance, track-capable sports cars, auto enthusiasts worldwide eagerly await more information about this exciting new concept.
