McCann Worldgroup Alters Leadership Structure and Introduces Global Chief Creative Officer Position
In a significant shakeup, McCann Worldgroup, a global advertising network owned by IPG, has announced leadership restructuring with Daryl Lee set to assume the role of global CEO, succeeding Chris Macdonald who is stepping down.
In the reorganization, Alex Lopez, the former global president and chief creative officer of McCann Worldgroup, will be departing the company. As a result, McCann will consolidate the global CCO position to focus more on traditional advertising work. In a statement, Lopez expressed his intention to step aside, allowing a new appointee to bring the same passion to the role as he did.
Other notable changes include Suzanne Powers, the current global president and chief strategy officer, being appointed as the chair of FutureBrand and the global chief product officer for McCann Worldgroup.
While there is currently no mention of a successor to Daryl Lee as the global CEO of McCann Worldgroup, he has been leading the initiative to adapt the company to a project-based future and reorganize the business to better cater to clients with evolving needs.
Arthur Tsang has been named as the Chief Creative Officer for Greater China, reporting to Carter Chow, the CEO of McCann Worldgroup Greater China, though this does not indicate a change in the global CEO position.
Without Lopez, the creative teams at McCann will have to adjust and find new directions for their work, as Daryl Lee restructures the company and steers it towards a more project-focused future.
Suzanne Powers will now hold the position as the chair of FutureBrand and the global chief product officer for McCann Worldgroup, demonstrating a shift in the company's leadership. In the absence of Alex Lopez, the former global president and chief creative officer, the finance and creative departments of McCann Worldgroup will need to adapt to new leadership and business strategies, particularly as Daryl Lee, the new CEO, focuses on reorganizing the business towards a more project-based model.
