Lufthansa Restructures Saxon Ground Staff, 130 Jobs Lost but Fair Compensation Offered

Lufthansa is restructuring its ground staff operations at Saxon airports Leipzig/Halle and Dresden. Around 130 employees have received notice, but a socially fair compensation package has been agreed. The tasks will be taken over by local subsidiaries Airport Services Leipzig (ASL) and Airport Services Dresden (ASD).

Lufthansa's decision comes amidst ongoing struggles in domestic air traffic recovery since the COVID-19 pandemic. The airline cited deteriorating framework conditions, including high state taxes, as contributing factors. The affected employees, responsible for handling Lufthansa and its corporate brands' aircraft, have been given the opportunity to apply for vacant positions within the Lufthansa group.

The switch to the winter flight schedule at the end of October will mark the transition of these ground staff tasks to ASL and ASD, subsidiaries of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG. Despite the job losses, the agreed compensation and potential redeployment opportunities aim to mitigate the impact on the affected employees.
