Salary Check: How Much Money Pilots Actually Earn - Lufthansa Pilots Get 18% Salary Boost Amid Global Shortage

Pilot salaries have seen a significant boost in recent years, with Lufthansa and the Cockpit union agreeing to an 18 percent increase over four years. This comes amidst a global pilot shortage and fleet expansion.

Captains, or chief pilots, typically earn between 120,000 and 270,000 euros per year, with their salaries varying based on experience, employer, aircraft type, and position. In Germany, the average annual earnings for captains are around 135,000 euros.

First Officers, or co-pilots, earn less but still enjoy high salaries, ranging from 51,000 to 97,000 euros per year. On average, German co-pilots make about 100,000 euros annually. The new collective agreement with Lufthansa includes a one-time payment of 3,000 euros, ten free days per month, and a bonus tied to the airline's economic success.

With the new collective agreement, Lufthansa pilots will see an average annual salary increase from 2025 onwards. This move aims to attract and retain experienced pilots, addressing the industry-wide shortage and fleet growth.
