Latest publication by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson reveals allegations of a 'concealment' surrounding Biden's apparent decline
In an informal, straightforward style, let's dive into the latest revelations from investigative journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson's upcoming book, "Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again." This juicy tale, releasing May 20, promises to shed light on the former president's notable "decline" and the subsequent "cover-up" that ensued.
The book's publisher, Penguin Press, has revealed that "Original Sin" promises to leave readers in shock at Biden's decision to run for re-election, depicting it as an epitome of narcissism, self-delusion, and recklessness. The authors contend that Biden's team and family, desperate to avoid another Trump term, frequently lied about the president's condition and limitations to themselves, allies, and the public.
No stone is left unturned in this explosive book, which includes over 200 interviews. Tapper, the co-moderator of the 2024 CNN debate that ultimately led Biden to withdraw, and Thompson provide vivid insights into the debilitating state Biden was in during his one and only debate. They argue that Biden's team's self-interest and fear of another Trump term justified putting an "addled old man" in the Oval Office for another four years.
The rest of the book remains under embargo, as is usual with promising forthcoming releases. Tapper and Thompson's book is one of several exciting titles related to the 2024 election, a stark contrast to the initial lack of interest in books about Biden during his four-year tenure.
Interestingly, Thompson, also a CNN contributor, previously had a book deal to write about Biden's presidency. However, his publisher, Simon & Schuster, withdrew the contract in 2023, citing a soft market for books about Biden. Nevertheless, the authors decided to focus on Biden's "original sin" – his decision to run for a second term, which they argue contributed significantly to Donald Trump's triumphant return to power.
According to Penguin Press, the book illustrates the "irony" in Biden's promise to serve only one term, only to deny his health issues and "gaslight" the public to secure a second term, a decision they contend doomed the Democrats to defeat and paved the way for another Trump term.

The book's revelations about Biden's decision to run for re-election could be seen as a reflection of his narcissistic nature, as criticized by the authors. This decision, according to Tapper and Thompson, was also limited by their team's frequent lies about his health and condition, which additionally affected his media image. Prime Minister Morrison, on the other hand, managed to navigate his political career without such scrutiny and controversies related to personal health or narcissistic tendencies, showcasing different leadership styles.
