Large sum of over £5 million in financial assistance designated for struggling households in Wiltshire
In a bid to alleviate the impact of rising living costs, Wiltshire Council has announced a new round of funding worth £5.4 million. This funding, coming from round four of the Household Support Fund, is expected to run until 31 March 2024.
The joint chief executive of Wiltshire Community Foundation, Fiona Oliver, stated that the funds will make a real difference and enable organisations to continue their vital work. Wiltshire Council will be working with local community and voluntary organisations to manage and distribute this support.
The funding will be targeted at households struggling the most with food and energy bills. Support will be provided through food parcels, energy vouchers, supermarket vouchers, household items, and meals.
Unfortunately, the spiking demand for aid has already left some food banks, such as those in Wales, running out of food. Meanwhile, Charity BanktheFood has launched a fresh appeal for people to donate goods via its digital app due to fears that food banks in England could also run out of supplies.
The government announced the Household Support Fund in April 2023, and the application details for the grants were made available at the beginning of this month. Details for applying for the grants will be available on the foundation's website.
The Household Support Fund is intended to help households struggling with living costs, providing much-needed relief during these challenging times. The council and third sector organisations will work together to deliver this support, ensuring it reaches those who need it most.
