Kroenke Sports & Entertainment Claims Entire River Mile Venture as Their Own
In a significant move, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) has acquired Revesco Properties' interest in the River Mile redevelopment project, a 62-acre site along the South Platte River north of Denver's Ball Arena. This acquisition notably includes Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park and the Meow Wolf site located at 1338 First St. near the West Colfax Avenue and Interstate 25 interchange.
The long-term development plan for River Mile envisions it as a key part of uniting several adjacent neighborhoods, including LoDo, Auraria Campus, The River Mile itself, and La Alma. The master plan proposes the creation of three new neighborhoods within the redevelopment area: an Entertainment neighbourhood, a Central Park neighbourhood, and a Transit neighbourhood.
Despite the large-scale vision, both Elitch Gardens and Meow Wolf will continue operations at their current locations, underscoring a phased approach to redevelopment. The entire build-out is expected to unfold over the course of decades, allowing the existing attractions to remain active while the area evolves.
KSE, the developer behind the 70-acre Ball Arena campus redevelopment, has expressed a commitment to a unified vision for the future of the River Mile and the Ball Arena campus. E. Stanley Kroenke, KSE Owner and Chairman, stated that the acquisition allows for a unified vision for the future of the River Mile and the Ball Arena campus.
In a statement, Mike Neary, KSE Executive Vice President, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating that they aim to make Elitch Gardens better than ever. No further details about the future of Elitch Gardens or Meow Wolf Denver have been disclosed by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment or Revesco Properties.
The transaction solidifies KSE's sole ownership of the River Mile redevelopment area and the Ball Arena campus. Rhys Duggan, CEO of Revesco Properties, believes that the Park and The River Mile vision are in good hands with KSE and Kroenke's family.
The acquisition marks a significant step in the ongoing transformation of downtown Denver's riverfront and entertainment district. Elitch Gardens will continue to be a key summer destination for Northern Colorado families, while Meow Wolf Denver, located at 1338 1st Street, will continue operating as usual.
The River Mile redevelopment project is poised to redefine urban living and entertainment along the South Platte River, with a focus on a long-term, multi-neighbourhood master plan while keeping key entertainment venues operational during the transition. Kroenke expressed gratitude to Revesco for many years of productive collaboration on the River Mile redevelopment project.
