Klaipėda Port's Green Hydrogen Project Hits Major Milestone with Electrolyzer Testing Success

Klaipėda Port's green hydrogen project has reached a significant milestone. After successful factory testing in Italy, the electrolyzer will soon be shipped to Lithuania for installation and on-site testing. Clean fuel production is set to commence next year.

The electrolyzer, produced by Nel Hydrogen, is the core component of Klaipėda Port's future hydrogen station. It passed its tests successfully, paving the way for its journey to Lithuania. Once installed, it will produce around 127 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, making Klaipėda Port the first in Lithuania and among the Baltic States to offer green hydrogen.

The project, financed partly by EU funds, has an estimated total cost of €12 million, with around €6 million coming from the European Union. Gevalda, the company behind the project, expects to complete construction by the end of this year. Following this, the installation and testing of hydrogen equipment will take place, with all works scheduled for completion by February next year.

The successful testing of the electrolyzer brings the Klaipėda Port green hydrogen project closer to completion. With clean fuel production planned to start next year, this initiative aligns with Lithuania's commitment to sustainable energy under the Next Generation Lithuania plan, funded by the European Union's NextGenerationEU recovery and resilience facility.
