Kempten Customs Seize €67K in Duties, Launch 63 Criminal Proceedings in Two-Week Holiday Traffic Check

Over a two-week period, the Kempten control unit inspected returning holiday traffic, leading to 63 criminal proceedings. The majority involved suspected tax evasion and smuggling of gold jewelry, with a significant case involving a traveler from Turkey who undeclared gold worth over 26,000 euros.

The focus of the officials was primarily on the import of gold jewelry. During these special controls, the Main Customs Office Augsburg collected over 67,000 euros in customs duties. Notably, seven criminal proceedings were initiated due to suspected violations of the Weapons Act, including switchblades and butterfly knives. The Ulm customs unit at Ulm-Dornstadt on the B10 federal highway was particularly vigilant, suspecting Turkey vacationers of tax evasion and smuggling gold jewelry worth more than 26,000 euros without a customs declaration.

The intensive checks by the Kempten control unit and other customs offices have resulted in a substantial amount of customs duties collected and numerous criminal proceedings initiated. The focus on gold jewelry smuggling and weapons violations has led to a successful crackdown on potential tax evasion and illegal activities among returning holidaymakers.
