In a strategic move, Oekom Publishing House, known for its non-fiction and academic books, will be changing its distribution cooperation. From October 1, 2025, the publisher will join forces with forum independent, a distribution cooperation that unites renowned independent publishers with non-fiction and academic book programs.

This change is part of Oekom's programmatic repositioning, which aims to drive forward societal debates that are close to its heart, particularly those concerning climate, environment, and social justice. The collaboration between Oekom and forum independent aligns perfectly with each other's focus.

Independent publishers in the forum include Haupt Verlag, Reclam, and J.H.W. Dietz. The change, which marks the end of Oekom's distribution with artfolio and the beginning of the cooperation with forum independent, will take place during the fall program of 2025.

Jacob Radloff, publisher at Oekom Publishing House, explains the importance of the cooperation for bringing their content to the market. Christine Burk, head of sales at Oekom, is involved in the decision-making process regarding the distribution cooperation change.

Oekom will continue to focus on its competencies in the field of non-fiction and academic books. However, from the fall program of 2025, the publisher will largely withdraw from the non-fiction segment, choosing instead to concentrate its efforts on its core competencies.

Oekom Publishing House thanks artfolio for the trusting and dedicated partnership over the past years. The publisher expresses its gratitude for the support and collaboration, and looks forward to its new partnership with forum independent.

The founding members of the Distribution Cooperation Forum, which includes oekom Verlag as a member from October 1, 2021, are not publicly specified. The cooperation with forum independent will provide ideal conditions for Oekom to bring its content on climate, environment, and social justice to the market.

In conclusion, Oekom Publishing House's strategic realignment, effective October 1, 2025, will see it join forces with forum independent, a move that will allow the publisher to focus on its core competencies and bring its important content to a wider audience.
