World Travel & Tourism Council and World Tourism Cities Federation Join Forces for Sustainable Tourism Development

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the WTTC Asia Leaders' Forum in Shanghai, China. The strategic partnership aims to promote sustainable tourism development, enhance global cooperation among major tourism cities, and drive economic growth through tourism.

The collaboration will include joint research projects, mutual support for events and conferences, and the establishment of information sharing channels. The key objectives of this partnership are to foster best practices, share knowledge, and promote innovation in tourism.

The benefits of this partnership are numerous. It will strengthen global collaboration among cities to boost their tourism appeal while managing challenges like overtourism and environmental impact. The partnership will also enhance sustainability by promoting responsible tourism policies that balance economic growth with social and environmental protection.

Increased investment opportunities and infrastructure development are also expected, as seen in India’s example with government funding towards infrastructure and rural tourism that the WTTC tracks closely. Better promotion of tourism at a global scale is another advantage, with unified campaigns and data sharing between the two bodies supporting cities and countries in reaching new international markets.

Li Baochun, Executive Deputy Secretary General of WTCF, emphasized the importance of the focus on tourism cities and his willingness to strengthen cooperation with the global Travel & Tourism industrial chain. Gloria Guevara, President & CEO of WTTC, expressed excitement about the partnership and its potential to share expertise and highlight the importance of Travel & Tourism development.

WTTC, with 200 members from various geographies and industries, represents the global Travel & Tourism private sector. WTCF, with 218 members across 73 countries, focuses on tourism cities and has a vision of 'Better City Life through Tourism'. The strategic partnership aims to increase tourism investment, develop tourism products, and open tourism markets globally.

This strategic collaboration thus supports the global tourism industry’s recovery and future development in a more coordinated, sustainable manner. The partnership is expected to make significant contributions to the tourism sector by promoting sustainable practices, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth.

The strategic partnership between the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) will involve joint research projects and mutual support for events, aiming to promote business growth and economic development through sustainable tourism. This collaboration is anticipated to enhance finance opportunities and infrastructure development in various tourism cities.
