Internal Market Compliance Confirmed for Aid Measure
The Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) has announced changes to ticket prices in its network, effective from January 1, 2026. These adjustments will affect a wide range of tickets, including single tickets, day tickets, and monthly tickets.
In a move to simplify travel within zones 2 to 12, the price of single-zone trips for single tickets, day tickets, and strip tickets will decrease. Notably, one strip will now be sufficient instead of two, reducing costs for frequent travellers. However, the price of a single ticket for zone M or zone 1 will increase by 10 cents to 4.20 euros.
Children's single tickets will see a slight increase, rising by 10 cents to 2.00 euros. The price for the short-distance single ticket will also increase by 10 cents to 2.10 euros.
Monthly tickets for seniors will increase at a similar rate to other monthly tickets. The prices for weekly and monthly tickets starting at 9 a.m. will also rise at a similar rate to regular monthly tickets.
The prices for monthly tickets will increase by an average of 4.3 to 4.4%. This includes an increase for the children's day ticket and the bicycle day ticket by 0.10 euros and 0.20 euros respectively.
For travel from Munich to Landshut, passengers will need an MVV ticket for zones M-8, which means 10 strips on the strip card (18.70 euros) or a single day return ticket for 23.90 euros. For travel from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, day-trippers will need a group day ticket for zones M-11, priced at 40.10 euros.
For the route from Rosenheim to Mühldorf a. Inn, travelers will pay the single fare price of 10.70 euros or 5 strips on the strip card for 9.35 euros.
The MVV fare will replace all other local transport fares in the new districts and the city of Landshut, which will be integrated into the MVV network on January 1, 2026.
Transitional rules for business fares in the districts joining the MVV state that single tickets, multi-journey tickets, and day tickets issued under the business fare will no longer be valid or issued after January 1, 2026.
Subscriptions issued under the business fare before January 1, 2026, will remain valid in their respective areas until their expiration date, but no later than 31st January 2026.
School time cards and training fare time cards issued under the business fare before January 1, 2026, will also remain valid in their respective areas until their expiration date, but no later than 31st January 2026.
The price for single trips within a zone in zones 2-12 will decrease from 4.10 euros to 2.70 euros. The price of the strip ticket will increase from the current 17.80 euros to 18.70 euros. The price of the group day ticket, for example, for zones M-5, will increase from 30.50 euros to 32.60 euros.
Detailed information on all new fares will be published on the MVV's website in the coming days. It's worth noting that the S monthly ticket, also known as the social ticket, will remain unchanged.
Most tickets are becoming more expensive, with an average fare adjustment of 3.9%. However, the MVV integrated area expansion, including the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mühldorf a. Inn, Landshut, and the city of Landshut, aims to simplify travel and provide more affordable options for many commuters.
