In a bid to compete with local Chinese EV startups, luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz has invested a substantial sum of 2 billion USD. However, the unveiling of their new model at Auto Shanghai 2025 did not generate the expected level of interest or excitement.
The new Mercedes-Benz model, intended for the new rich in China, was located in a small cabin in a corner of the stand during the press conference. Despite initial impressions from official pictures, the model appeared more aggressive in person, thanks to its LED lights. However, the larger and more impressive grille compared to the old car seemed to be the only notable feature.

Despite the underwhelming response to the new Mercedes-Benz model, the company is making significant investments to stay competitive in the Chinese market. The question remains whether this new model will be able to capture the attention and loyalty of the new rich in China as intended.
