India's Commerce Minister Heads to Qatar to Boost Trade Ties
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is set to visit Doha, Qatar from October 6-7, 2025. This is his first official visit to the country, accompanied by senior officials from various Indian ministries. The primary focus of the visit is the proposed India-Qatar Free Trade Agreement and finalizing the Terms of Reference for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Goyal's visit comes on the heels of the first meeting of the India-Qatar Joint Working Group on Trade and Commerce held in July 2024 and follows the Amir of Qatar's visit to India in February 2025. Bilateral trade between the two nations has been robust, surpassing USD 14 billion in 2024-25.
The visit will include a high-level business delegation for the first meeting of the India-Qatar Joint Business Council. The Qatar-India Joint Commission on Trade and Commerce, co-chaired by Qatar's Commerce and Industry Minister, H.E. Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, will also take place. During his stay, Goyal will meet prominent Qatari dignitaries, business figures, and representatives of Indian organizations in Qatar. The discussions will cover a wide range of sectors including finance, agriculture, healthcare, tourism, and culture.
The visit aims to review bilateral trade performance, address trade and non-tariff barriers, and explore new avenues for investment and business cooperation. With the proposed India-Qatar Free Trade Agreement and the finalization of the Terms of Reference for CEPA on the agenda, this visit is set to strengthen the economic ties between India and Qatar.
