India's Commerce Minister Goyal Heads to Qatar to Boost Trade, Finalize FTA
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is leading a high-level business delegation to Doha, Qatar, from October 6 to 7, 2025. This is his first official visit to the country, aiming to strengthen India's trade and investment partnership with Qatar. Bilateral trade has already surpassed USD 14 billion in 2024-25, reflecting the growing economic ties between the two nations.
Goyal will co-chair the Qatar-India Joint Commission on Trade and Commerce with Qatar's Commerce and Industry Minister, H.E. Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani. The meeting will discuss a wide range of sectors, including finance, agriculture, healthcare, tourism, and culture, to further bolster the multifaceted relationship.
A key topic on the agenda is the proposed India-Qatar Free Trade Agreement and finalizing the Terms of Reference for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This visit builds on the outcomes of the Amir of Qatar's visit to India in February 2025 and the first meeting of the India-Qatar Joint Working Group on Trade and Commerce held in July 2024. Goyal will also meet with prominent Qatari dignitaries and Indian organizations in Qatar to explore new avenues for investment and business cooperation.
Accompanying Goyal are senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Ministry of Railways, and the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The visit seeks to review bilateral trade performance, address trade and non-tariff barriers, and enhance the strategic partnership between India and Qatar. With bilateral trade already at USD 14 billion, both nations aim to further boost their economic ties.
