Indiana Leads US in Concealed-Carry Permits as Diversity Grows

Indiana leads the nation with the highest concealed-carry permit rate, at 23.1%. This trend reflects a broader surge in permit holders across the US, with notable increases among Asian Americans and women. Meanwhile, Georgia's recent adoption of Constitutional Carry has significantly expanded the number of Americans living in such states.

From 2015 to 2021, Asian Americans saw a 219.2% faster increase in permit holders than whites. This growth is part of a wider trend: more than 8% of Americans now have a permit to carry concealed, with over 10% of adults in 16 states holding such permits. Indiana tops the list with a 23.1% permit rate.

Five states have surpassed one million carry-permit holders. The surge in permits has coincided with a decrease in violent crime offenses. Notably, Blacks have experienced the largest increase in permitted concealed carry, growing 283.9% faster than whites. Women are also joining the ranks, making up 29.1% of permit holders in 14 states.

Georgia's adoption of Constitutional Carry in 2023 increased the population living in constitutional carry states by 46.8%, bringing the total to 46.8% of Americans. With 29 states now having Constitutional Carry laws, the concealed-carry landscape continues to evolve, reflecting a diverse range of Americans exercising their right to bear arms.
