Hyundai Motor America appoints new head of marketing division
Hyundai Motor America Appoints Sean Gilpin as New Chief Marketing Officer
Hyundai Motor America has announced that Sean Gilpin will be taking over as the company's new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), effective from August 26, 2021. Gilpin will retain his global responsibilities as VP of global sales marketing for Hyundai Motor Co. and report directly to Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor America.
Parker praised Gilpin, stating that he is a talented marketing leader who has brought new thinking and strategies to their marketing and advertising. In his new role, Gilpin will oversee Hyundai Motor America's marketing strategy, creative execution, social, experiential marketing, multicultural marketing, media buying strategy, customer communications, and financial management.
The appointment comes as Hyundai Motor America's sales have been growing, including sales of hybrid and electric vehicles. In fact, Hyundai has posted two consecutive quarters of double-digit growth in the hybrid vehicle segment in 2024. Electrified models accounted for nearly 20% of Hyundai's total sales in Q2 of 2021.
Gilpin has a long history with Hyundai, having served as vice president of global sales marketing for Hyundai Motor Co. since July of last year. Prior to joining Hyundai Motor Co. last July, Gilpin spent nearly eight years at Innocean USA, Hyundai's creative marketing partner agency. He also served as senior manager of retail marketing at Hyundai Motor America from March 2015 through October 2016.
Angela Zepeda, the previous chief marketing officer, resigned from the company to take a new position outside of the automotive industry. Zepeda served as the CMO of Hyundai Motor America from October 2019 until her resignation in early August 2021, according to her LinkedIn profile. Randy Parker expressed gratitude to Zepeda for her contributions to the company's business growth.
In Q2 of 2021, Hyundai Motor Co. reported revenue of 45 trillion won, a 6.6% year-over-year increase and the highest-ever quarterly mark in company history. However, there remains a tremendous opportunity to enhance consumer understanding of Hyundai's innovation, mobility leadership, and vision for the future of transportation.
The company's focus on electrified vehicles has been a key factor in its recent success. With Gilpin at the helm, Hyundai Motor America is poised to continue its growth and solidify its position as a leader in the automotive industry.
