Huawei and Chery agree on partnership to develop Luxeed brand into 'Phase 2.0'

Luxeed, the new car brand under Huawei's Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), is set to launch its first multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) model in the first half of 2026. Known as the EHV, this MPV will be available in both extended-range and battery electric versions, using CATL batteries.

The EHV is built on Chery's new E0X-L platform, replacing the now-canceled Exeed Sterra E08 project. Some of the original engineering team from the Exeed Sterra E08 project have been transferred to Luxeed to bolster its MPV research and development (R&D) capabilities.

The development of the EHV began in August 2025, following Luxeed's consolidation as an independent brand within Chery and under HIMA's strategy. The EHV is targeting the approximately $50,000 price segment and aims to cater to the growing demand for electric MPVs in China.

The Luxeed MPV launch is not imminent in 2025 but is scheduled for early to mid-2026. This comes after the successful launches of Luxeed's first model, the Luxeed S7 pure electric sedan, on November 28, 2023, and the Luxeed R7, the first coupe SUV under HIMA, on September 24, 2024.

The cooperation agreement between Huawei, Chery, and Luxeed, signed in Shenzhen, further increases Chery's commitment to the joint brand to leverage its greater brand potential. Luxeed has also established a dedicated new energy vehicle (NEV) company, operating independently in production, sales, and services, to support the growth of its brand.

With an investment of over RMB 10 billion ($1.4 billion) and an increased R&D team of 5,000 people, Luxeed is poised to make a significant impact in the automotive industry. The expected launch of the EHV MPV under HIMA's business framework further solidifies Luxeed's position as a key player in China's electric vehicle market.

Luxeed, as part of HIMA, is planning to launch the EHV MPV, a multi-purpose vehicle available in both extended-range and battery electric versions, in the first half of 2026. The EHV's development started in August 2025, targeting the $50,000 price segment and focusing on the growing demand for electric MPVs in China. The project is a collaboration between Huawei, Chery, and Luxeed, with the aim of making a significant impact in the automotive industry. Luxeed has established a dedicated new energy vehicle company to support its production, sales, and services, further increasing its commitment to the market. The EHV's development is assisted by some of the original engineering team from the Exeed Sterra E08 project, reflecting the company's focus on technological advancement in the transportation sector, particularly in energy production and management for electric vehicles.
