Heidestrecke Revival: Passenger Trains Return by 2027
The long-awaited revival of passenger train services on the Heidestrecke between Soltau and Lüneburg is set to become a reality by the end of 2027. The Lüneburg district, led by Landrat Jens Böther, is spearheading the project, which is eagerly anticipated in the Heidekreis.
Initially, diesel locomotives will be in operation, serving as a transition until battery-powered trains can be introduced. The first trains are expected to run at hourly intervals, with a journey time of approximately 49 minutes. Notably, the travel time to Hamburg via this route will not exceed the current connection via Buchholz.
The reactivation of this line is of significant importance to the Heidekreis, and the district welcomes the news. However, a stop in Drögennindorf is currently not feasible due to technical reasons. This could potentially lead to an additional stop in Hützel, benefiting the Heidekreis.
The first passenger trains on the Heidestrecke could start running as early as two years from now, offering a new connection and potentially relieving the current route via Buchholz. The Lüneburg district, under the leadership of Landrat Jens Böther, is committed to the prompt realization of this project, which is greatly welcomed by the Heidekreis.
