Main street redesign: Two-year construction project on classic hamburger establishment. - Hamburg's primary roadway undergoing renovation for a duration of two years

Beginning this week, a two-year renovation project will see improvements to a significant traffic route, Elbgaustraße, in the northwest of Hamburg. The work will commence near the Elbgaustraße S-Bahn station, transforming traffic heading towards Lurup into a one-way street.

In the meantime, motorists traveling towards Eidelstedt will be redirected via Farnhornweg and Schnackenburgallee, passing by the Barclays Arena and Volksparkstadion. The project may necessitate several full closures in 2026. The anticipated completion date is slated for the end of May 2027.

The construction is expected to borrow space for 28 trees, with an improved infrastructure involving enhanced cycling and pedestrian paths and expanded bus stops. The Elbgaustraße will eventually serve as part of cycling route 18 in the future. However, a shared path under the railway underpass, approximately 200 meters long, will accommodate cyclists and pedestrians simultaneously.

Typically, around 36,000 vehicles travel through the 1.8-kilometer stretch daily, with many buses halting at the Elbgaustraße S-Bahn station. Amidst the upgrades, lines heading towards Eidelstedter Platz/Schnelsen will be re-routed.

To uncover the most precise and current details about the alternative routes and project timelines for Elbgaustraße renovation, it's advisable to consult Hamburg’s official city or transport department websites or local traffic announcements.
