Göttingen Road Closure: Eight-Month Detour for District Heating Expansion

Göttingen residents should prepare for a significant road closure and rerouting of public transport starting May 12, 2025. The closure is necessary for the expansion of district heating, a crucial step towards the city's climate change goals.

Herzberger Landstraße will be closed from Dahlmannstraße to Wagnerstraße for eight months, until December 2025. During this period, a detour via Calsowstraße will be in place and will be clearly signposted. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly.

The road closure will also affect public transportation. Buses and trams will be rerouted during the closure to ensure minimal disruption to passengers. Göttinger Energieversorgung GmbH (GEW) is responsible for the expansion of the hot water network in the Ost district, which will benefit the city's climate change plan by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The closure of Herzberger Landstraße is a necessary step in Göttingen's journey towards a more sustainable future. Motorists and public transport users are urged to be patient and follow the detours and reroutes during the eight-month closure.
