Germany's Infrastructure Subsidies Stable Until 2024, But Some Programs Suspended
The German government has announced that subsidies for building refueling and charging infrastructure will remain stable until 2024. This move aims to support the growth of climate-friendly vehicles, with around 1.8 billion euros available for investments.
The government guarantees funding for approved projects based on the 2024 budget. Key initiatives include the Deutschlandnetz charging network and initial charging infrastructure for electric trucks. The focus is on expanding these measures, funded by the German Climate and Transformation Fund (KTF).
However, not all funding programs can continue as planned. The government has suspended programs for climate-friendly commercial cars and alternative propulsion systems for buses due to budget consolidation and a focus on essential investments. This includes the subsidy for eTrucks, which lasted only two rounds, and the current subsidy program for eBuses, which is in its third round for vehicle acquisition. The premiums for private buyers of electric cars have also been canceled overnight due to budget cuts.
While the government ensures funding stability for approved infrastructure projects until 2024, other funding programs face suspension or cuts. There are no funds available for a new funding call for climate-friendly commercial cars and alternative propulsion systems for buses in passenger transport. The focus remains on creating conditions for the increase of climate-friendly vehicles through strategic infrastructure investments.
