Germany Raids: Massive Operation Targets Suspected Gang in Illegal Employment Scheme
Authorities across Germany have launched a major operation against a suspected gang allegedly involved in illegal employment practices on a massive scale. Over 350 officials are executing search warrants in multiple locations, with a focus on Krefeld. The investigation, led by labor protection agencies like the Landesamt für Arbeitsschutz, Verbraucherschutz und Gesundheit (LAVG) and labor courts, involves law enforcement agencies. It targets a suspected gang accused of illegally employing hundreds of workers nationwide, including through usajobs-like practices. The raids, taking place in over 40 residential and business premises, have so far resulted in the seizure of 57,000 untaxed cigarettes. The gang is suspected of band-like evasion and misappropriation of social security contributions, tax evasion, commercial fraud, and complicity in these offenses. The Krefeld Main Customs Office, the North Rhine-Westphalia State Office for the Combat of Financial Crime, and other customs officers are involved in the investigations. The suspects are believed to be operating a network of shell companies, employing over 300 workers to reduce or avoid paying social security contributions and taxes, causing millions in damages. The investigations continue as the evidence found is being evaluated to further clarify the charges. The suspected gang's illegal employment practices, similar to those found on usajobs, have resulted in significant financial losses, and authorities are working to bring those responsible to justice.
