Germany, Czech Republic Seize Marijuana in Joint Border Control
In a joint effort, the Main Customs Office Regensburg and Czech customs recently conducted a cross-border control in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The operation, carried out in early July, targeted passengers and their luggage in buses and small transport vehicles.
A total of 16 officers from both countries participated in the action, with nine from Germany and seven from the Czech Republic. They were assisted by mobile X-ray equipment and drug detection dogs from both nations. The control aimed to intercept prohibited goods such as drugs, weapons, or counterfeit items.
The operation was led by Günter Schnabel, head of the Traffic Control Unit (KEV) in Selb, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Hauptzollamt Regensburg. The Czech authorities played a crucial role in securing the drugs and apprehending the suspect. In the Czech Republic, possessing more than 10 grams of marijuana is a criminal offense, punishable by up to five years in prison. This was not the first such operation; similar joint controls occur regularly on both sides of the border, targeting various modes of transport.
The recent control in Karlovy Vary resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of marijuana, demonstrating the effectiveness of these collaborative efforts. Such joint operations help to disrupt the flow of illegal goods across borders and strengthen cooperation between German and Czech customs authorities.
