FWC Offers Exclusive 2026 Goliath Grouper Hunting Season
Florida's Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has opened applications for Goliath grouper hunting permits in 2026. This opportunity is exclusively for individuals born between 1939 and 1969, with a limited harvest season from March 1 to May 31. The season's success relies on strict regulations and a lottery draw system.
Applications can be submitted through the FWC permit application page. Key regulations are outlined on the FWC Goliath grouper regulations page. Each permit holder can catch and release one Goliath grouper per season, using hook and line gear only. The fish must measure between 24 inches and 36 inches in total length.
The season's length and permit allocation are results of Florida's and federal agencies' successful conservation efforts over the past three decades. Permits will be awarded through a lottery system, with applications open until October 15. A total of 200 Goliath groupers can be caught and released during the 2026 season.
The 2026 Goliath grouper hunting season offers a unique opportunity for eligible individuals. With careful management and adherence to regulations, this season promises to contribute to the ongoing conservation of this iconic species.
