Japan Mobility Show Set to Kick Off, Emphasizing Sustainable Growth and Innovation

The auto industry is undergoing a once-in-a-century transformation, sparked by the CASE revolution. This transformation is at the forefront of discussions as the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) prepares for the Japan Mobility Show, which is set to kick off on October 26.

At the online press conference for the Japan Mobility Show, Chairman Akio Toyoda and the vice chairmen of JAMA discussed several key announcements and future plans focused on promoting sustainable growth and innovation in Japan’s automotive industry.

Emphasis on Future-Oriented Trade Dialogue

Chairman Toyoda (or his counterpart Masanori Katayama) expressed the importance of continuing dialogue between Japan and the U.S. aimed at further tariff reductions and creating a stable global business environment for the automotive sector. This is critical to sustain and develop both countries' automotive industries amid global uncertainties.

Support for Domestic Industry and Supply Chain Reinforcement

The leadership urged continued government support to maintain Japan’s automotive industry competitiveness via measures such as supply chain reinforcement and initiatives to stimulate domestic demand.

Introduction of Inclusive Grassroots Motorsport Category

Vice Chairperson Harumi Kuwayama discussed establishing the new Super Taikyu Challenge category in grassroots motorsports to lower barriers for newcomers, including younger generations, into racing.

Preparation for Future Mobility and Technology Showcases

The Japan Mobility Show will feature more than 400 participating companies, the most ever. It will showcase futuristic mobility solutions such as electric buses, hydrogen fuel cell ships, and other cutting-edge transport technologies, aligning with the industry’s future plans to promote sustainable and innovative mobility.

A Platform for Connections and Collaboration

The Japan Mobility Show aims to provide a platform for people and technologies to connect and share Japan's vision for the future with the world. A platform is being prepared for matching startups with OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) and suppliers.

The Tokyo Motor Show's Evolution

The Tokyo Motor Show was revamped for the 2019 event by JAMA under the leadership of Chairman Toyoda. The name of the event was changed from the Tokyo Motor Show to the Japan Mobility Show to reflect a broader focus. The 2019 Tokyo Motor Show received 1.3 million visitors and featured various cutting-edge Japanese technologies. The goal is to exceed one million visitors at the Japan Mobility Show.

The H2 Energy Festival and the Tokyo Future Tour

In addition to the Japan Mobility Show, events such as the H2 Energy Festival, featuring live music and comedy performances powered by hydrogen energy, and the Tokyo Future Tour, showcasing the latest technologies from around Japan, not just the auto industry, are also part of the lineup.

The Japan Future Session

The Japan Future Session will feature in-depth discussions about the future of mobility. Together, these events aim to energize all of Japan and involve all those who want to be part of building the future.

The Japan Mobility Show, with its focus on sustainable growth, innovation, and collaboration, is poised to be a significant event in the auto industry's transformation. Public access to the show will begin on October 28.
