Former Chief Financial Officer of M&T departing from the financial institution
In a recent development, Darren King, a 24-year veteran of M&T Bank, has announced his departure from the Buffalo, New York-based lender, effective August 10. King served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of M&T since 2016.
King is transitioning into a role overseeing retail and business banking, as well as mortgage and consumer lending at M&T Bank. The specifics of his new position have yet to be disclosed.
The bank disclosed King's departure on Wednesday, but the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing did not offer details about the reason for his departure or who will replace him. Frank Lentini, M&T Bank's senior communications director, stated that King is leaving the company for personal reasons.
Prior to becoming the CFO, King was the retail-banking executive overseeing business banking functions for M&T's branch and ATM network. He also supervised the bank's marketing and communications division. King succeeded René Jones as CFO in 2016.
M&T Bank is currently onboarding People's United, and the role of the president and chief operating officer at M&T Bank, which was previously held by Rich Gold, has yet to be filled. Gold retired last year, and the bank has yet to announce a successor.
Eric Feldstein remains head of business banking at M&T Bank, while Rich McCarthy continues to head retail banking. Daryl Bible, who was hired as the CFO of M&T Bank, is expected to bring valuable experience to the bank, having successfully merged BB&T and Truist in 2019. Bible's experience is seen as beneficial for M&T in 2023, as it navigates the onboarding of People's United.
Before joining M&T, King held senior leadership roles, including vice president of the financial services practice, at Mercer Management Consulting, the predecessor firm to Oliver Wyman.
