FERC to Repeal 53 Energy Regulations in Bid to Boost Production
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is set to repeal 53 regulations related to energy production in America. This move, in response to an April executive order from President Donald Trump, aims to boost energy production and align regulations with statutory mandates.
The repeal, which focuses on deregulation, targets rules that hinder energy production and infrastructure development. It affects multiple federal agencies, although specific details of each regulation and the agencies involved are not fully clear. Trump's April order directed several agencies to establish sunset dates for rules on energy production, with repeal unless re-approved. The 53 regulations will sunset in one year after the order's finalization, unless FERC votes to extend them.
Legal experts have warned that the repeal process could potentially violate the law. The energy industry has also expressed concern that repealing rules could confuse the process for building power lines and pipelines. FERC Chair David Rosner, however, has stated that the move is a 'common-sense commitment to a fast and fair regulatory process'. The new order will become effective 45 days after publication in the Federal Register, unless significant adverse comments are received.
FERC's repeal of 53 regulations, driven by Trump's executive order, seeks to streamline energy production in America. While industry concerns and legal warnings persist, FERC maintains that this move promotes a swift and fair regulatory process.
