Fashion designer Alberta Ferretti announces departure from her eponymous brand.
In a Tuesday press release from Aeffe Spa's board of directors, it was announced that Alberta Ferretti, the renowned Italian fashion designer, is stepping down from her namesake brand. Ferretti, who has been the creative director since the brand's founding in 1980, expressed confidence that the Alberta Ferretti brand will continue to be a point of reference for sophisticated, refined, and high-quality women.
The decision comes amidst a challenging stock market environment, and the reorganization of Aeffe's human resources is likely a response to these conditions. The company is planning a careful and in-depth analysis of the roles and functions of its various departments, with the intention to internally reorganize to be more efficient.
Despite her departure, Ferretti will continue in her role as vice president of Aeffe. She believes it is a right and conscious choice to pave the way for a new creative chapter for the brand, leaving a legacy of elegance, femininity, and concreteness to her successor.
No new creative director for the Alberta Ferretti label has been named yet, and the company has not released any information about changes in the leadership of its other brands, including Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, Moschino, and Pollini.
The decline in Aeffe's revenues might be indicative of larger struggles in the luxury market. In August, the company reported a 14.6% year-over-year decline in its H1 revenues for fiscal 2024. Massimo Ferretti, the executive chairman of Aeffe, attributed the decline to an "extremely complex market situation."
Lara Ewen, who has written about the luxury market and Aeffe's brands in her articles "Luxury struggles persist: report" and "Moschino appoints Adrian Appiolaza to creative director role," noted that the designer appointed as the creative director of Moschino in January 2024 is Adrian Appiolaza. He took over the role after the late Davide Renne.
As Ferretti steps down, the fashion industry looks forward to seeing who will take the reins of her iconic brand and continue to uphold its legacy of elegance and refinement.
