Expansion in Landstuhl's Elis Laundry Service Expected Following Inferno
Elis to Rebuild and Expand Laundry Facility in Landstuhl
Following a devastating fire in December 2024, the Elis laundry facility in Landstuhl, Germany, is set for rebuilding and expansion. The new site is expected to increase production capacity and create additional jobs.
Details about the renovation and expansion were disclosed today at a press conference held at the Landstuhl town hall. After the major fire last winter, Elis announced plans to rebuild the facility, with demolition scheduled for June 2026, construction commencing in the fall, and operations resuming by the end of the year.
To accommodate employees following the December 2024 fire, work was temporarily dispersed to various locations. The new plans promise around 400 employees who originally worked in Landstuhl the opportunity to return, and approximately 35 new full-time positions will be created.
The rebuilt facility will not only encompass a larger area but also an expanded production space of 10,000 square meters, a 67% increase from the initial 6,000 square meters. To achieve this, Elis intends to purchase land from the city currently leased to the energy provider Pfalzwerke. Landstuhl Mayor Mattia De Fazio (CDU) stated that providing this land would create favorable conditions for a new build in the city.
With the anticipated expanded premises, Elis can expect to boost its production capacity in the Sickingen district by up to 30%. The company has estimated the cost of the rebuild and expansion to exceed 30 million euros.
Elis' decision to resume operations in the Kaiserslautern district is partially attributed to the collaborative relationship with the city, according to Christopher Beyer, who oversees the Elis site in Landstuhl.
The fire that swept through the Landstuhl industrial area on December 5, 2024, was extinguished after an eight-day effort involving hundreds of emergency personnel. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The rebuilding and expansion of the Elis laundry facility in Landstuhl underscore the city's attractiveness to industrial operators, fostering economic growth and maintaining employment opportunities in the region.
The manufacturing industry is set to benefit from Elis' rebuilding and expansion of their laundry facility in Landstuhl, with an anticipated increase in production capacity due to the expanded production space of 10,000 square meters. Financing for this project is estimated to exceed 30 million euros, demonstrating the commitment of Elis to their business in the Landstuhl area.
