Border States, a leading electrical distributor in the US, has announced its strategic partnership with Blue Yonder to modernize its warehouse operations and enhance customer service. The partnership, set to be fully implemented by 2026, will see Border States adopt Blue Yonder's AI-enabled, end-to-end warehouse management and labor management solutions at its first regional distribution center.

This initiative aims to streamline and optimize operations, increase accuracy, efficiency, and throughput, and improve labor productivity, utilization, and morale. By leveraging cloud-based solutions, Border States hopes to gain increased visibility, efficiency, and control throughout its supply chain, ultimately enhancing customer service.

The implementation will be supported by the Blue Yonder Platform, with assistance from Open Sky Group, a Blue Yonder partner. Blue Yonder aims to increase productivity and reduce labor costs for Border States, while the partnership with Open Sky Group will ensure a smooth deployment and effective scaling of operations.

Meanwhile, DHL Express Canada and Unifor, a union representing over 2,100 DHL Express workers in Canada, have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract. If ratified, this deal could potentially end a two-week-long strike initiated by DHL due to the need for a new contract.

Elsewhere, Clorox, the American multinational consumer goods company, has decided to transition to a new ERP system to replace decades-old technology. The company has proactively added 1.5 weeks of inventory at retailers to address potential problems during the ERP transition. Clorox expects the new system to significantly boost productivity.

In other news, FedEx has continued to implement its Network 2.0 overhaul, converting 290 stations to handle combined volumes by the end of May. The overhaul, which involves the combination of its Express and Ground networks, has seen the closure of 100 stations. By the end of June, roughly 2.5 million average daily volume will be flowing through the Network 2.0 optimized stations.

On the environmental front, global carbon dioxide emissions from the energy sector hit a record high for the fourth consecutive year last year. Among fossil fuels, natural gas saw the largest growth, increasing by 2.5%.
