Euro 7 Pollution Standards Softened by EU Parliament's ENVI Committee
The European Parliament's Environment (ENVI) Committee has voted to soften the European Commission's air quality proposal, ahead of the November plenary vote. The committee seeks further improvements before the final decision on Euro 7 pollutant emission standards.
The ENVI Committee, spearheading the Euro 7 process, has called for additional enhancements before the crucial plenary vote. The committee adopted amendments that extend the implementation timeline for heavy-duty vehicles, introduce slightly stricter limit values, but also weaken testing conditions. The responsible figure for the ENVI committee's position on Euro 7 at the November plenary session remains unclear.
Benjamin Krieger, Secretary General of the European Association of Automotive Suppliers, has slammed the weakened proposal. He argues it won't effectively support cleaner air or stimulate innovation in the industry.
The future of Euro 7 pollutant emission standards in Europe now hangs in the balance. Inter-institutional negotiations between the Commission, Parliament, and Council will determine the final outcome. The ENVI Committee's vote has set the stage for these critical discussions, with the November plenary vote looming on the horizon.
