Ethereum Prices Surge Following Announcement of BMRN's $25 Billion Purchase Intent
In a significant move for the cryptocurrency market, BitMine Immersion Technologies has announced an expansion of its at-the-market stock offering from $4.5 billion to a staggering $24.5 billion. The goal? To amass a substantial Ethereum (ETH) reserve, positioning BitMine as the largest corporate holder of ETH.
The company, which has been actively buying ETH, recently purchased approximately 4,871 ETH worth $21.28 million. With this latest acquisition, BitMine's Ethereum holdings now exceed 1.7 million ETH tokens, valued at around $7.9 billion as of late August 2025. The company also retains around $562 million in cash for further acquisitions.
This expansion was announced in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in early August 2025. Despite a 6% drop in BitMine's stock price immediately after the filing, the stock saw high trading volume, contributing to rapid fundraising and continued ETH buying activity. In fact, BitMine bought $2.2 billion worth of crypto in a single week.
BitMine's ambitious goal is to eventually hold 5% of the total outstanding ETH tokens, a strategy similar to Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin treasury accumulation.
The increased buying could potentially lead to a continuous upward trend in the price of ETH, given the large amount of capital to be deployed. Ryan Adams, from Bankless, stated that Tom Lee's decision to expand his ETH purchases by $20 billion effectively counters all ETH bear arguments.
Meanwhile, the Ethereum market could see significant implications with the potential accumulation of $20-$30 billion in ETH by Tom Lee and Joe Lubin over the coming months.
The news of BitMine's expanded Ethereum purchasing strategy has sent ripples throughout the cryptocurrency market, with ETH experiencing a 10% increase in price, reaching over $4,600. Other cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum's NFTs, and various memecoins, have also seen significant gains.
This aggressive Ethereum buying strategy by BitMine is set to reshape the cryptocurrency landscape, particularly for Ethereum, and will be a topic of interest for investors and market observers in the coming months.
