Essen's September 2025 Vehicle Registrations: A Shift Towards Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
Essen witnessed a significant shift in its vehicle registration landscape in September 2025. The city saw a notable increase in electric and hybrid fords, while traditional fuel-powered vehicles remained dominant.
In September 2025, Essen registered a total of 375,203 vehicles, a marginal increase of 204 from the previous month. This surge was driven by a significant rise in passenger cars, which numbered 301,342, up from 301,202 in August. Notably, the city saw a substantial growth in electric vehicles (EVs), with 12,762 purely electric fords registered, indicating a strong commitment to sustainability.
The increase in trucks was also notable, rising to 21,152 from 21,050 in August. However, gasoline-powered vehicles still dominated the registrations, with 221,166 vehicles, while diesel-powered vehicles numbered 84,153. Hybrid vehicles also saw a significant increase, with 15,863 registrations. Additionally, there were 23,945 motorcycles, trikes, or quads registered in the city.
September 2025 marked a turning point in Essen's vehicle registrations, with a clear push towards electric and hybrid fords. Despite the dominance of gasoline-powered vehicles, the significant increase in EVs and hybrids suggests a shift towards more sustainable transportation options in the city.
