Trams resuming normal operations on Wuhlheide Bridge once more - Enhancements implemented by the Commission to bolster the security of the railway system.
Berlin's Wuhlheide Tram Line Returns Gradually
The Berlin Transport Authority (BVG) announced that the tram line at Wuhlheide will resume operation today, starting as early as 5:00 AM. Initially, a shuttle service on line M17 will run every 10 minutes between Blockdammweg and Schöneweide S-Bahn station, with detours in place for other lines. Normal operation is scheduled to restore by Saturday, May 31, 2025.
The decision follows the Wyhliche Bridge's instability in Berlin-Oberschöneweide, which necessitated its closure. With the resumption of service, pedestrians and cyclists will also be able to use the Treskowallee to Edisonstraße. However, due to the absence of a traffic light at the intersection, security personnel will regulate the traffic flow.
The BVG will first establish the shuttle service to facilitate a transition period. This phase is crucial for adjusting all information systems and timetables to ensure stable operation. Upon completion, the replacement bus services will be discontinued, allowing all lines to run as usual.
According to the Senate Administration, the first easements for motor vehicles are planned until June 6, 2025, subject to construction progress and weather conditions. The resumption of the tram line marks a significant milestone in the recovery and return to normalcy in Berlin's transportation system.
