Enhanced Sports Club Participation Rooted in Nationwide Financial Aid

In a significant boost for sports participation in Saxony-Anhalt, the "Restart Sport 2022" program has distributed an additional €322,487.50 to local sports clubs. This financial aid, part of the initiative "Restart Sport 2022 - Saxony-Anhalt in Motion", has been funded from the Corona special assets.

Each sports club in the region received a flat rate of €10 per adult member and €15 per child or young person, with an additional €12.50 for every new member gained in 2022. This support aims to provide an incentive for recruiting new members and strengthening the sporting community.

The financial aid is not the first of its kind in the region. In 2020 and 2021, amateur sports clubs could apply for funds via the "Corona Aid Sport" program if they were threatened in their existence during the pandemic. A total of over one million euros was paid out to 86 clubs, helping them navigate the challenging times.

Sports Minister Dr. Tamara Zieschang emphasised that the financial support was intended to overcome the consequences of the pandemic and to strengthen children and youth sports. As a result, the sports clubs in Saxony-Anhalt, which are more than 3,000 and organised under the Saxony-Anhalt State Sports Association, now have over 358,000 athletes, a number that surpasses the pre-pandemic figures.

The "Restart Sport 2022" program also offers a bonus of €100 for each new instructor trained in 2022. This initiative is part of the broader efforts to support the growth and development of sports clubs in the region.

As of January 1, 2023, there are 3,033 sports clubs under the Saxony-Anhalt State Sports Association with a total of 358,251 athletes. The success of the "Restart Sport 2022" program indicates a promising future for sports in Saxony-Anhalt.
