Energy company HDF Energy teams up with EVNSPC to accelerate green hydrogen energy production in Vietnam.
In Hanoi on Tuesday, global hydrogen power solutions leader HDF Energy joined forces with Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC), a prominent Vietnamese power distributor, to jointly develop green hydrogen energy projects. The objective of the partnership is to power remote islands in southern Vietnam where consistent electricity supply remains an issue.
The partnership, marked by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron, signifies a significant milestone in France-Vietnam cooperation on sustainable energy. The event was graced by high-level representatives from both nations.
Under this agreement, HDF Energy and EVNSPC will collaborate on technical and feasibility studies, identify potential project sites, coordinate with local authorities, and align investment and engineering resources. The collaboration aims to provide a reliable, 24/7 electricity supply at lower costs compared to diesel-generated power, addressing the issues of complexity and cost commonly associated with fuel logistics.
The partnership also emphasizes mutual knowledge-sharing on hydrogen technologies, reflecting both parties' commitment to accelerating the clean energy transition in Vietnam.
Nguyen Phuc Duc, the General Director of EVNSPC, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. He noted that this partnership will facilitate Vietnam's energy transition, particularly on off-grid islands managed by EVNSPC, by offering a stable power source.
HDF Energy's Chairman and CEO, Damien Havard, expressed that the agreement signifies a pivotal moment for the company's work in Vietnam. The project is part of broader Vietnam-France energy transition cooperation, involving government agencies, state-owned enterprises, and private sector partners.
The initiative aims to reduce Vietnam's reliance on fossil fuels, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and promote sustainable socio-economic development for island communities. The model is designed to be scalable and replicable across other off-grid areas with similar challenges.
