Easter Spending to Reach Record $23.6 Billion in 2025
Easter spending in 2025 is set to reach a new high, with consumers planning to spend a total of $23.6 billion on holiday-related items. According to the National Retail Federation's annual Easter spending survey, tradition is the primary motivator for 63% of shoppers, driving them to purchase Easter-specific items such as candy (92%), food (89%), gifts (65%), decorations (51%), and clothing (49%).
Consumers are expected to spend an average of $225 per person, with more than half planning to cook a holiday meal (58%), visit friends and family (55%), and attend church (45%) on Easter Sunday 2025. Even those not celebrating Easter are expected to spend an average of $25.43 per person, totaling $800 million.
Discount stores remain the top choice for Easter shopping in 2025, with 55% of shoppers planning to visit one. The total expected spending on food is $7.4 billion, gifts $3.8 billion, clothing $3.5 billion, candy $3.3 billion, flowers $1.9 billion, and decorations $1.7 billion.
This year's Easter spending is set to surpass last year's $22.4 billion and approach the record $24 billion spent in 2023. The National Retail Federation's survey, conducted March 3-7, has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.1 percentage points.
